Have you ever had a conversation regarding cycling with a non cyclist? They probably don’t get it. We’ve all heard questions like, “why would you want to ride up “that” hill”. Or, “why would you want to ride instead of driving your car”? Maybe, “those bib shorts look like a high school wrestling outfit”. My personal favorite is, “you spent how much on that bike”? I love the dumb founded sound in their voice as they ask that particular question.
So, why do you ride? Many of us started riding as kids to have a great time. What a rush experiencing the speed and excitement that riding brought to your life. Riding a bike may have been the first form of “freedom” for many kids or teens. Did you ride your bike as your first form of transportation? Do you enjoy riding alone, or riding with friends? Health issues cause some people to enjoy cycling. Do you enjoy road or mountain bike racing? Have you ever ridden to clear your head? Commuting to work is a great way to enjoy cycling, and to save money on gas!
Who cares, right? At the end of the day, it only matters that we love to ride bikes, all kinds of bikes. At Jax, we ride streets, cruise bikes along the strand, race both mountain and road bikes, commute, and enjoy riding with our clients http://jaxbicycles.com/articles/group-rides-at-jax-pg15.htm. I think we all ride for many reasons, all that matters is that you ride! PD
